Seattle Times Chimes in on The Bartered Bride

'The Bartered Bride' leaves opera fans waiting for more from Auburn
By PHILIPPA KIRALY
SPECIAL TO THE P-I

There is nothing highbrow about Smetana's opera "The Bartered Bride," a story of down-to-earth life and peasant high jinks, all of it sunny-side up. In concert format and with panache, the Auburn Symphony Orchestra performed a chunk of this lighthearted romp Saturday night at Auburn Performing Arts Center.

Megan debuts two CD's, one classical and one Christmas?!
Megan

During the week of September 17th, 2007 Megan set out on two very different CD recording projects.  The first, a demo CD to be mailed out to various Young Artist Programs, includes such arias as Ah forse lui...sempre libera from La Traviata and Willow Song from the Ballad of Baby Doe.  Megan worked with Al Swanson the recording engineer for the Seattle Symphony and Greg Bolin, longtime composer/pianist to record the work.  In addition, Megan also lent her talents to Voices of Christmas a Christmas album for Volunteers of America.  The brainchild of Sanford Wright, this album features many local talents such as Katie Tomlinson, Victor Benedetti, Tim Glynn & Jimmy Scheider. While the final cut is still not finalized we might expect to hear a very different Megan Rockin around the Christmas Tree.  Family members can safely expect what to get in their Christmas stockings from the Chenovick's this year!

Megan is awarded a Seattle Opera Guild Performing Arts Grant
Megan

The Seattle Opera Guild recently awareded Megan a $2000 performing arts grant to be applied towards voice lessons, coachings, materials and other singing related costs this next year.  Megan would like to send a big thanks out to Dick Engstrom for sending her the application and Ellen McLain for writing a fabulous letter of recommendation.  Megan's first grant purchase was 4 Nico Castel libretti translation books.  Time to start learning those roles!
